The 2016 Certification Course will be conducted in Gainesville, FL on June 1. This is an advanced soils course focused on interpreting soils of the SE Coastal Plain. This year, we are going to visit sites at the UF PSREU and ACMF to assist the preparation for the HILS workshop the next day. Ultisols, Alfisols, Entisols, and Spodosols ranging from well to poorly drained will represent peninsular Florida quite well.

Individuals who successfully complete this course will demonstrate that they are proficient in describing and classifying soils, estimating seasonal high saturation, determining hydric/non-hydric status of soils, understanding landscape position, and various other soils-related topics.

This course is a critical part of CPSS certification in Florida. Becasue of the complex nature of soil science, this course offers instruction at multiple levels simultaneously. Soil scientists with extensive experience in the southeast are encouraged to attend as they will benefit the same as those who are new to the area. This course also serves as a nexus of ideas due to the varied experience of attendees.
