Student Fellow

Description: The title of Student Fellow is a prestige reserved for undergraduate and graduate students who contribute to the FAESS mission in an exemplary manner. The requirements for the title of Fellow are specific to the academic level.Award:Title of FAESS Bachelor Student Fellow, FAESS Master Student Fellow, or FAESS Doctoral Student Fellow as appropriate.

 

- Requirements -

All Levels:

  • Nomination by FAESS full and active member
  • Support letter, membership, and attendance requirements outlined below
  • Demonstrable contribution to FAESS
  • Demonstrable contribution to soil science in the form of research appropriate for the desired level (see level-specific guidelines)Membership:Tenure requirements may be reduced if the student will graduate prior to tenure. The Executive Council will consider such variances within the context of the applicant and nature of contribution to FAESS. Membership and attendance is documented by the Secretary/Treasurer.Bachelor Level:Letter of support from supervisor of capstone research or internship Letter of support from undergraduate coordinatorMember for 12 months prior to application
  • Attendance at three meetings (at least one Annual Business and one Hydric Soil Workshop)

 

Masters Level:

  • Letter of support from major advisor summarizing research
  • Letter of support from department chair or graduate coordinator
  • Member for 18 months prior to application
  • Attendance at four meetings (at least two Annual Business meetings) prior to application
  • Doctoral Level:
  • Letter of support from major advisor summarizing research
  • Letter of support from department chair or graduate coordinator
  • Member for 24 months prior to application
  • Attendance at six meetings (any combination Annual Business and Hydric Soil Workshop) prior to application

Contribution to FAESS:

The student will have demonstrated an exemplary support of FAESS and its mission.

 

Application:

A student can be nominated by a FAESS member at any time. Please allow 30 calendar days for FAESS to process once all application materials have been received.

 

FAESS Nominating Member: Please provide a nomination letter outlining the student’s contributions to FAESS. Click HERE to submit the nomination letter to FAESS.

 

Student: Provide a cover letter indicating your intent to apply for student fellow. Include the level (Bachelor, Masters, or Doctoral) and a summary of your qualifications, length of membership, and which meetings attended. Click HERE to submit your letter.

 

Letters of Support: Advisor, Department Chair, or Coordidnator, click HERE to submit you letter of support for the student.
